The Goethe-Zertifikat B2 is a German language certification for young people and adults that presupposes an advanced use of the language and corresponds to level B2, the fourth of the six levels of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

- express one’s opinions clearly and in detail on a wide range of subjects, explain a viewpoint on current issues, and outline the advantages and disadvantages of different options.

PARTS OF THE EXAM: MODULES
The Goethe-Zertifikat B2 consists of four modules: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression, and oral expression (a paired oral exam).
The exam is offered in both digital and paper-based formats at selected examination centers. It is administrated and graded worldwide according to the same standards.
Reading comprehension
The candidate will read various texts, such as forum posts, newspaper and magazine articles, comments, and instructions. They will be able to understand the main information, important details, as well as viewpoints, opinions, and rules.
Duration of the test: 65 minutes.
Writing
The candidate will express and justify their opinion by writing a forum post on a current topic. They will also write a formal message in a professional context.
Duration of the test: 75 minutes.
Listening comprehension
The candidate will listen to interviews, contributions, conversations, and opinions drawn from everyday situations and radio broadcoasts. They will be able to understand the main statements and important details.
Duration of the test: approximately 40 minutes.
Speaking
The candidate will give a short presentation on an assigned topic and discuss it with their partner. They will also argue and justify their opinions during the exam.
Duration of the test: 15 minutes.
REQUIREMENTS
The Goethe-Zertifikat B2 is a German language exam intended for adults and young people.
Goethe-Institut exams are open to all interested individuals and can be taken regardless of minimum age or German citizenship.
- For the Goethe-Zertifikat B2 for young people, a minimum age of 15 is recommended;
- For the Goethe-Zertifikat B2 for adults, a minimum age of 16 is recommended;
- The Goethe-Zertifikat B2 requires language skills corresponding to the fourth level (B2) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
To reach this level, between 600 and 800 teaching units of 45 minutes are generally required, depending on prior knowledge and initial learning conditions
