    Changes in the study programme may occur.

    *Students can choose between the internship (9 ECTS) or master's thesis (12 ECTS). If students choose to do an internship, they will choose 3 ECTS elective courses extra. This means that students who choose to do an internship will have to complete 21 ECTS elective courses in total, while students who choose to do a thesis will have to complete 18 ECTS elective courses in total. You can do your internship during the 4th semester, only after the Tourism Capstone Project, or between the 2nd and 3rd semester.

    • Minor in eTourism

    During the USI Master in International Tourism programme you will have various opportunities to specialize yourself, including the Minor or elective courses (12 ECTS) you choose.

    You can use these 12 ECTS to further personalise your study plan by choosing one or more of the following options that are offered within the USI Master in International Tourism:

    *You can choose between the Master's Thesis (12 ECTS), or the Tourism Consultancy Project (12 ECTS) which includes a small individual thesis on the project (6 ECTS).

    **You can do your internship during the 4th semester, or between the 2nd and 3rd semester. If you choose to write your master's thesis during the 4th semester, you can do your internship wherever you prefer (Ticino, Switzerland, or worldwide). This gives you the flexibility to do your internship outside of Switzerland if desired.

    ***The Study Tour is a one-week field trip to a European city destination, in which you apply all tools and knowledge you acquired during the Master. More international study trips and company visits are organized throughout the Master (e.g. Sustainable Tourism Colloquium field study in Piemonte, Architecture and Tourism seminar in Venice, Management of Small and Medium Enterprises wine business company visit, etc.).

    Study Tour

    Each year the 2nd-year Master in International Tourism students visit a tourism destination abroad during a Study Tour week, which is offered by the University of Lugano and accompanied by tourism professors.

    Thesis

    During the final semester, our Master in International Tourism students research and write a Master’s dissertation on a tourism topic of their choice.

    Master in International Tourism students benefit from Master’s theses research project support given by Postdoctoral researchers and PhD students affiliated to our Academic Partners.
