Practicalities for the USI community

Preparatory, support and advanced language courses

USI offers courses in French, English, Italian and German free of charge for Bachelor/Master students, PhD students, and academic and administrative staff .

For students, these courses are not part of the curriculum but are intended to improve their command of a language and enable them to pass the language examinations included in some study programmes (Bachelor programmes in Communication Sciences, Economics, Italian Language, Literature and Civilisation) or cope with courses or entire programmes taught in English / Italian (for non-Italian speakers).

  • French courses

    Open to all members of the USI community, these courses are delivered on the Lugano Campus.

  • English courses

    These courses are organized on the Lugano Campus and break down as follows:

    • English courses specifically and exclusively for first year Bachelor and Master students in the Faculty of Information Science. The courses available, information about them and instructions for enrolment are set out on this page.
    • English courses for all other members of the USI community (academic and administrative staff, PhD students from all Faculties and Bachelor and Master students at the Academy of Architecture and the Faculties of Communication Science, Economics and Information Science) The courses available, information about them and instructions for enrolment are set out on the platform www.corsilingua.usi.ch.
  • Italian courses

    Open to all members of the USI community, these courses are organized on both the Lugano and Mendrisio campuses.
