  • IELTS Exams

    IELTS – International English Language Testing System – is one of the most popular tests in the world to certify the knowledge of English. Developed by the British Council in collaboration with Cambridge Assessment English, IELTS certifications are recognized by over 10,000 organizations worldwide, including Università della Svizzera italiana.

    USI is a British Council IELTS Registration Partner and is therefore an official center where it is possible to take the IELTS exams. Both USI students and USI staff as well as external people can register for IELTS exams at USI. The exam takes place on the Lugano campus, in Via Buffi 13, in the Palazzo Rosso (click here to have a view of the campus map).

  • The PLIDA test

    P.L.I.D.A. – Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri
    Certification of proficiency in Italian language.

    The P.L.I.D.A. diploma is an official certification of proficiency in Italian as a foreign language, issued by the Dante Alighieri Society in agreement with Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the University “La Sapienza” in Rome.

    P.L.I.D.A. certifies the proficiency in Italian in accordance with the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The exam consists of four tests that verify the language proficiency in the four basic skills: listening, reading, writing, speaking.

    The results are communicated to all applicants within 60 working days from the delivery of all exam materials (Scrivere booklets, answer sheets for Ascoltare and Leggere tests, recordings of Parlare tests, exam reports) to the P.L.I.D.A. headquarters in Rome. Please note that any incomplete or incorrect materials delivered will void the said 60-day term.

    Spring session

    • Wednesday, June 10, 2020: levels B1, B2 and C1 written and oral tests. Please note that in the event of sessions with many candidates, the oral tests may be continued over the following few days. Registrations must be communicated to P.L.I.D.A. by March 1, 2020.
    • Wednesday, May 13, 2020: levels A1, A2 and C2 written and oral tests. Please note that in the event of sessions with many candidates, the oral tests may be continued over the following few days. Registrations must be communicated to P.L.I.D.A. by April 28, 2020.

    Autumn Session: not offered

    The fees to register for the exams shall be paid to the following account in advance:

    The fee for each level is listed in the enrolment form.

    To complete the registration the following documents shall be submitted by e-mail to: plida@cdarts.ch:

    • registration form (see below), duly filled out
    • copy of valid ID (passport or ID card)
    • copy of payment receipt

  • The Goethe test

    The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s worldwide cultural institution for promoting the study of the German language abroad and encouraging international cultural exchange.

    For over 50 years, the Goethe-Institut has supported the learning of the German language, in the form of courses and development of specialized tests, curricula and teaching materials.

    Since January 2002, the Centro d’Esami Goethe-Institut Svizzera Italiana has been the official test centre for German language tests in Canton Ticino.
